A Pair Of Oxen Dressed To The Nines

Here’s a rather cute photo of two oxen who have been instrumental in making our visit to the Porto San Paolo festival a memorable one. On the first few days of July, the patron saint of Porto San Paolo in Tavolara Island is celebrated. There is a pious procession where the statue of the patron saint is brought to the port and then placed on a small boat to sail around Tavolara Island. During the time it is on land, these two handsome fellows pulled the festively decorated cart towards the port. Despite the hot weather this year, a lot of people were in attendance, locals and tourists included. And when the ritual is done, everyone is treated to a seemingly endless array of food and drink made by the local folk. One of the most fun times we’ve had in Sardinia.
