sardinia,escape to sardinia,old sardinian documents,archive sardinia,old sardinia

I have this curious document that was sent to me a long time ago. I was rummaging in my old filing cabinet and I found it sitting at the top of the folders.

A friend knew of my fondness of Sardinia and he gave me this which he told me was with them since his grandmother was still a young girl. He admitted why and how they had it. Their family were an insulated lot who immigrated from Spain and knew no Germans, up until they came to the United States.

Judging from the text, it is in German and I can see the words “Calari” which makes me think of Cagliari and “Sardinichen” which sounds like Sardinian.

If anyone can help me translate the meaning of this document, please let us know!

  1. Hi, I was just looking for some information about the next festivals in Sardinia and happened to come across your blog. The text is in German. The first part is about different cities in Sardinia, it mentions e.g. Oristano, Turris - I think this is maybe Tharros, it says that Alghero is a relatively new city.
In the second part it mentions the Sardinian language and how it has many varieties that people from one region to another hardly understand each other.
It is very small and written in the old German letters (Fraktur). If you try to enlarge it a bit, maybe I could tell you more. It is a very old kind of German and I would really like to know when it was written.
    Kind regards from Germany, Claudia
