Where To Stay In Sardinia

Look out for the Charme e Relax sign as a guarantee for character, comfort, excellent standard of accommodation and professional service This Italian association specializes in small to mid-sized hotels, usually in unique buildings (monasteries, castles, old inns and so on) and interesting locations.

The quality of accommodation can vary a great deal: a one-star pensione (guesthouse) will tend to be very basic and will usually have communal bathroom facilities; two-star places are often only slightly better, but rooms may have a private bathroom; three-star places offer reasonable standards; and, four- and five-star hotels offer facilities such as room service, laundry, parking and Internet. There is often not a lot of difference between a pensione and an albergo (hotel). However, a pensione will generally be of one- to three-star standard, while an albergo can be up to four- to five- star standard.

Don’t get us wrong here but hotels in Sardinia are generally unexciting. There weren’t too many around until the 1960’s so the chances of staying in a charming old hotel are quite low. Most will be unimaginative modern buildings, which are differentiated, based on their location (near the sea) and facilities (swimming pools, etc.). However, as a rule, most places are kept clean and tidy.
