The Lofty View From Montarbu Forest

Montarbu is a state forest that can be found in the wild highlands of the Barbagia Seulo. Montarbu has a mixed woodland that covers most of the limestone plateau of Monte Tonneri, and the rocky northern escarpment drops precipitously down to the deeply-etched Flumendosa Valley.

To support the growth of a healthy high forest, the woods were thinned out and most of the tress were pruned in recent years. The walk starts from the shady Valley of the Riu Ermolinus and climbs all the way through oakwoods to Pizzu Margiani Pobusa. The highest peak in the area is about 1324 m (4343 feet) and offers a stupendous panoramic view of the wild highlands of eastern Sardinia.
