In Sardinia, there is a time for everything, especially the tourist sites. The famous churches of Sardinia, meaning those that have become must-see tourist stops, such as the Pisan churches of Santa Trinita di Saccargia near Sassari and the one in San Gavino in Porto Torres, are open all day and every day. The other churches observe the usual hours - meaning, they open at around 7 or 8 a.m. for the morning mass, and then close at around noon. You can visit again for the afternoon mass at 4 or 5 p.m., and until they close at 7 p.m. The more obscure and smaller churches open only for the early morning and evening masses, while the even smaller ones are open only on Sundays and holy days of obligation.

There is nowhere more intriguing and interesting in Sardinia that its own capital, Cagliari. This is where the stories and lessons of the past merge with the relevance and innovation of the present, symbolized by the iconic statuettes of the island’s culture to the newer structures of contemporary times. Much of the general attraction is accorded to the ruins found at Nora, a ways from the town, which simply shows the extent to with Sardinia was revered and respected.

One of the special attractions in Sardinia is the undersea caves situated in the coast of Alghero. A group of professional Swedish divers from Linköpings Dykcenter visited Alghero and explored its mysterious caves. Though exploring the caves is left to the experienced, watching their amazing video is like going with them in the water. And it is an eye-opening look into what lies beneath the waters of Sardinia.

Here is a rare look at how local Sardinians make traditional pecorino. At the break of dawn, farmers from the village of Gavoi share fresh cow's milk and converge at a farm where they work the milk into cheese. The preparation of cheese has been done using technology passed on through generations. Everything is performed by hand, as you will see in this video. Traditional Sardinian cheese just like pecorino takes hard and exacting work. But the results are rewarding.

Despite being positioned along the Mediterranean, barely within the borders of Italy, Sardinia has a variety of dishes and menus that will satisfy the urge of even the hungriest people. The island thrives in its selection of seafood dishes, aside from the usual pasta servings that Italy has been known for all around the world.

Nowadays, however, the authentic Sardinian wild boar is harder to find as hunting reduced their numbers over the years. A larger boar from mainland Italy was imported to boost the population and their interbreeding is creating a newer, bigger breed.
