All Italians know that the culture, the temperature, and the people are different from every region. People from the North are very much different from the South. But I noticed immediately that Sardinia and its people have neither characteristics of the il continente . Sardinia is a big island that is far from the mainland (which is usually an eight hour travel by ferry). I thought that since Sardinia had been invaded by so many different invaders, their culture have changed and far removed from the mainland. The things I personally like about Sardinia is its climate, the friendly people and their adherence to tradition.

Sardinia is one of the safest places in Italy. But while there is a very low crime rate on the island, there are inevitably some instances of drunkenness which can lead to petty crimes like theft. Instances of misdemeanors, like indiscriminate firing of guns, are borne more out of boredom rather than anger.

One of my favorite myths of Porto Taverna-Tavolara is the one that talks about a secret submarine base built inside the Island of Tavolara.
Being a fan of military aviation, I read many books and magazine about the military history of Sardinia. And as someone from the Italian Air Force, I wanted to know if [...]

1. What led you to go to Sardinia ?
I would like to use what a famous songwriter, poet, and musician Fabrizio de Andre has described about the place: “Sardinia is surely as our Lord created Paradise. Built from what he was dreaming about during the time of creation: 24,000 cubic km of [...]

I think that in order to give some credibility to why we chose Sardinia to live, a little about our background is needed. My wife and I were both born in the North east of England, not far from the sea, but for most of working lives we lived in the Midlands which as the name suggests is about as from the sea as you can get. We both said that we would always like to move back to the sea.

We were a very urban family. I grew up in bustling Milan. I never knew any other life than the city. It all started when my parents decided -- on a whim -- to go to Sardinia on vacation in 1982. I have never been to a real beach before let alone the wilderness.

After welcoming all things Italy, think you’re turning into a plate of parmigiana? Sure, there’s some truth behind the notion of having too much of a good thing—which, in some cases, may eventually end up spoilt and rotten—so it would probably be best to add a few options to the Italian adventure. Much like a glass of sparkling water after consuming bottles of full-bodied red wine, Sardinia is the kind of refreshing break one needs during these times.
