The people of Sardinia were driven from their homes near the shores due to the constant attacks it has experienced from hostile countries. As a result, Sardinians were forced to adjust their lifestyles while hiding behind the mountains of the island. Instead of becoming fishermen, most of them adapted to pursue a land-based livelihood to accommodate their need for survival. One of their more popular pursuits is being a shepherd, with the responsibility of wandering with their herds.

Deus Ti Salvet Maria is a traditional religious song that venerates the Blessed Virgin Mary. It originated in the 17th century but still endures to be one of Sardinia's most favorite songs. As this was originally written in Italian, the Sards later made it their own by translating it into the vernacular. This happened during the 18th century where most Sardinians were all of Roman Catholic faith and was extensively sang in Mass and religious festivals.

The Mamuthones and the Issohadores are the mysterious masked characters in the carnival of Mamoiada. The carnival celebrates the ritual od The masks are carved entirely from wood and are specifically made for the occasion by expert craftsmen. The mask of the Mamuthone, also known as Bisera, is painted black and comes exclusively from the bark of a wild pear tree. The Issohadores are from the alder tree and is painted white. The interpretations of this ritual are complex. The dance of the procession dancers is a ritual influenced by local agricultural myths. The dance is supposed to symbolize the reawakening of Nature in spring. It also has historical meaning.

This is where the stories and lessons of the past merge with the relevance and innovation of the present, symbolized by the iconic statuettes of the island’s culture to the newer structures of contemporary times. Much of the general attraction is accorded to the ruins found at Nora, a ways from the town, which simply shows the extent to with Sardinia was revered and respected.
