I agree with Shardan, it's in the centre of the mediterranean sea, historically the crib of human civilization, between the great europe and the great africa, how could it be a "remote" island? Iceland, Greenland, Svalbard or perhaps Ireland could be considered remote, but not Sardinia, which is distant from France, Italy, Africa and Spain about 1 our, and it's right in the middle!!

And about customs, well, I've lived in Sardinia for more then 20 years and only a few 80 years old catholic grandmothers would not like mini-skirts, everybody else would just don't care about what you wear, despite we love to keep our old fashion customs to celebrate some religious festivals or some type of dance, but that's just cultural heritage, the extremely modern Japanese people actually do the same.

I would suggest to add more information about Sardinian's original language and cultural heritage which are just unique and not a "remote-version" of a "mainland". As you know, many countries in the continent expected to be the "mainland" for Sardinia, even though local culture, language, civilization and rulers have lived there before anyone else from the several "mainlands" arrived there.

Greetings from Ireland.

You summarised most of what Sardinia is all about, the fantastic beaches, good food, traditions the weather and the friendly people, but you wrongly generalise about the locals being too conservative and narrow-minded, I think you should get around the island a little more and do some more research.

Sardinia is not just a hotspot for tourism, but it has also a center for world-class scientific and technological research.

The Island has been at the forefront of many pioneering advancements over the decades, to name you some interesting facts In 1945 Sardinian virologist Giuseppe Brotzu discovered cephalosporins-based antibiotics and Tiscali the giant telecommunications firm was born in Sardinia.

Also try Googling for the Polaris Technology Park.
